ENDODONTICS
WHAT ARE ENDODONTICS?
Endodontics is the field of dentistry that is specific to the dental pulp. Each of your natural teeth has a dental pulp inside of it. This pulp carries the blood supply and nerves that keep the tooth healthy and alive. If the pulp is damaged or becomes infected, it will need to be treated by an endodontic specialist.
WHY WOULD ENDODONTICS BE NEEDED?
The most common reason for requiring endodontic treatment is because one or more of your dental pulps have been compromised or damaged. This might be due to dense decay that has reached inside of the tooth. It might be due to a break or fracture that has essentially damaged or destroyed the pulp. Treatment typically involves removing the pulp via a root canal.
WHAT MAKES SOMEONE A CANDIDATE FOR ENDODONTIC TREATMENT?
Endodontic treatment is incredibly common. You might require treatment if you’re experiencing severe pain as well as tooth sensitivity. You might not be able to apply pressure to the tooth that’s pulp has been damaged. It’s important to consider treatment before the damage and pain gets worse.
WHAT CAN BE EXPECTED DURING ENDODONTIC TREATMENT?
Endodontic treatment will begin with a consult and exam. We will take x-rays to identify areas of the pulp and to look for damage or decay. It’s recommended that if you need endodontic treatment, you have it done before the pain you’re experiencing gets worse. Endodontic treatment often involves opening the tooth and removing it via root canal therapy. Root canals are one of the most commonly performed dental procedures in the world. A root canal is designed to eliminate any pain that you’re experiencing so that the tooth doesn’t have to be removed. We even offer exosome therapy as a way to regenerate the pulp to prevent it from being removed. We can discuss treatment options with you during your consultation appointment in the office.
